We take a look at five potential players for the Buffalo Sabres to select at the top of the 2018 NHL Draft in June.

It can never be too early to start thinking about the draft when you’re a supporter of the Buffalo Sabres.

There’s only so much time left between now and the deadline. After that, the hunt for the playoffs begins and sooner rather than later, mock drafts will be appearing on your dashboard faster than rain during a hurricane.

Plus, the Sabres sit dead last in the Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference and the overall. A recent three-game win streak has only separated the Blades from the Arizona Coyotes by four points for last in the entire league.

At this point, it’s only fair to look towards the draft. It’s actually kind of exciting to think about. The future seems to be on the horizon for the Sabres, and fans just need this dumpster fire of a season to end to reach that next chapter.

The top of the NHL 2018 draft class contains some good potential. Nothing like the draft classes that boasted the likes of Connor McDavid, Auston Matthews and Jack Eichel, but it’s still really exciting.

According to My NHL Mock Draft, three of the top five choices in the upcoming selection are wingers. The other two prospects are defensemen that each shoot with the opposite hand.

Let’s dive into some basic statistics about each of these top five players. This is without any lottery adjustments made; we’re assuming the Sabres are at pick number two and have these options to choose from.
