Buffalo Bills: Top 5 Linebackers in Franchise History
By Paul Taylor
The season may be over for the Buffalo Bills, but let’s celebrate the end of their playoff drought by counting down the five best linebackers in franchise history.
For many people, the Buffalo Bills are synonymous with losing. Fair or not, that’s the perception for a franchise which lost four straight Super Bowls and until this season, was mired in the NFL’s longest active playoff drought. (Not to mention the longest in all four of the major professional sports leagues in North America.)
However, the Bills have had their fair share of fantastic players, dating all the way back to when they started playing in 1960. This includes the likes of Bruce Smith, O.J. Simpson, Thurman Thomas, Joe DeLamielleure and Jim Kelly, who have all been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
In total, the Buffalo Bills have had 11 inductees into the Hall of Fame. However, none of them are from the linebacker position.
We find this quite surprising, given the quality of players the Bills have had over the years, at the most prominent position on defense. To make our point, let’s count down the top five linebackers to ever pull on a Buffalo Bills jersey.
Honorable mentions go to Takeo Spikes, John Tracey, Harry Jacobs, London Fletcher & Sam Rogers.
