Toronto Blue Jays: Roy Halladay’s best moments in Toronto
Near no-hitter against the Detroit Tigers
This is a moment that will always be remembered as the one that got away. As a rookie, Halladay was looking to make an impact on the Blue Jays and what better way than to throw a near no-hitter.
The Blue Jays won the game 2-1 but the story was Halladay’s performance which was near perfect until the final out of the ninth inning. The Tigers pinched-hit Kimera Bartee for Bobby Higginson and he hit an opposite field shot that went over the wall, end the no-hit bid.
Halladay recorded eight strike outs throwing only 95 pitches with 14 outs recorded by fly balls and seven by ground outs.
The game only took an hour and 45 minutes to complete with 38,036 people in attendance with the Blue Jays improving their record to 88-74 on the season.
