Brendan Guhle – Defensemen

The Sabres went into their last contest with a depleted defence. Ristolainen, Matt Tennyson and long gone Zach Bogosian all missed the Capitals game.

Taylor Fedun did check into the lineup for the contest, and he did good enough. What was surprising to me is that the Sabres elected not to stick a young promising defensemen in like Guhle.

The 20-year-old has been going back and forth between the Prince Albert Raiders and the Amerks for three seasons now. The change in scenery doesn’t hinder the play from Guhle.

In four stints with the Raiders, Guhle has notched 30 goals and 63 assists for 93 points. The offensive-defenseman has transitioned his playmaking abilities to Rochester. In 11 games, the Canadian has already scored 2 goals and 6 assists.

Curtis Joe of Elite Prospects notes:

"A heads-up defenseman who can really take a beating and dish it out as well. Built like a tank; grueling play doesn’t phase him. Calm, collected, and poised with the puck; great body and stick positioning without the puck. Reliable at both ends of the ice and can be trusted with a hefty amount of ice time. All-in-all, a defenseman who strives to be difficult to play against, consistently, with and without the puck."

It’s never smart to rush a young player into his mold, but a 10-game stint couldn’t hurt. Plus, an injured Sabres lineup should guarantee a spot for Guhle on the d-core.
