Buffalo Sabres rebound against Capitals: 3 takeaways

3) Playmakers rise up
To make up for the lack of results on the power-play was the play at even strength. The big guns for the Buffalo Sabres all rose to the occasion, which helped them take the two points.
Eichel showcased his incredible stick-handling abilities with a superb assist to Kane to open the scoring. Pominville cashed in on a point when he assisted Kane’s empty-net goal, and O’Reilly was doing his usual thing in the face-off circle.
On the flip side of the coin, players like Sam Reinhart and Kyle Okposo are still struggling to make plays. I hate trying to predict or forecast, but it’s looking like it’s going to be a down season for the duo.
They’re noticeable every once in a while, but that is not good enough for the Sabres. These two have to find form soon, because they both mean a great deal to Buffalo when they contribute.
Sabres’ Player of the Game
It’s a rare occasion. The Player of the Game has to be divided between Kane and Pouliot, and they both deserve it.
I don’t know if anything more has to be said about Kane. The man has been on a mission ever since the season started.
Where the journey ends is for fans to speculate. The Winnipeg native amassed two goals on Tuesday night, and made some very nice moves around the Caps’ defensemen.
Pouliot has been finding his game lately which is very warming to witness, especially because of Buffalo’s lack of depth scoring. Pouliot glided through the neutral zone and dazzled his way past Jakub Vrana to snipe a beauty past Philipp Grubauer for a crucial second goal. Let’s hope the recent form from number 67 only continues.
