The Buffalo Sabres had a couple of nights to rest after their 5-1 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets, but it ultimately didn’t help against the San Jose Sharks.

The Buffalo Sabres managed to keep it a close and entertaining contest throughout. However, a late Logan Couture goal gave the San Jose Sharks their second win over the Sabres this season.

Let’s get to our three takeaways from Buffalo’s 3-2 loss:

1) Good enough from Robin Lehner

Some might beg to differ, but I don’t think Lehner had that bad of a game. He made 31 saves and had a .903 save percentage. He stopped all four of the Sharks’ power-play shots.

San Jose cycles the puck very effectively with some of their big players. Lehner was left for dust on a breakaway chance from Joonas Donskoi, which gave the Sharks an early advantage. The goals from Couture and Chris Tierney were the result of some great passing, which forced Lehner to shift from side to side.

In no way am I trying to make excuses for Lehner, but the loss can’t be blamed all on him. He also made a nice poking save on Melker Karlsson, to stop another breakaway chance.
