Toronto Raptors: 14 bold predictions for the 2017-18 season
By Demar Grant
We’ve seen just enough Toronto Raptors game-play to generate wild speculation and brash predictions; these are our boldest ones.
Predictions are married to sports, ranging from the ever so small, ‘Kyle Lowry is going to be All-Star this year’ to the wild ‘the Toronto Raptors are going to the finals this year’, everyone has them.
The best thing about making a prediction is, if you’re right you can flex on everyone you know, saying you called it while the terrible most misguided guesses just fall by the wayside.
The Toronto Raptors are just a couple days out from the start of the regular season. We’ve heard just enough interviews and seen just enough to gameplay to generate wild speculation and horrible takes. I’ve got some good ones so, these are my 14 bold predictions for the Raptors 2017-2018 this season:
1) The Raptors end the season 41-41
Might as well come off the top rope at the beginning.
Although the Raptors are coming off back-to-back 50 win seasons the pieces that were there to make it happen were slowly shaved off to make it to this point. Bismack Biyombo? gone. Terrence Ross? Traded. Patrick Patterson? Gone. Cory Joseph? Traded. P.J. Tucker? Gone. DeMarre Carroll? I can here you laugh already but he was the starting small forward for those teams, gone.
It’s just the starting lineup and young bloods now. Lowry + the bench worked wonders, but that was because 2Pat was a plus minus savant.
Now the team is relying on the likes of Pascal Siakam, Delon Wright and Jakob Poeltl to pick up the slack of grizzled veterans. Ain’t saying it can’t happen but it’s unlikely and it’s gonna take time, thus 41-41.
