The Toronto Maple Leafs will honour their past once again with a Toronto Arenas throwback uniform.

After a year of speculation, the Toronto Maple Leafs have revealed their new Centennial Jersey.

The blue and white will take it back to 1918 and don a Toronto Arena’s throwback uniform during their Dec. 19 matchup with the Carolina Hurricanes. The game has aptly been called the “Next Century Game”

The jersey was speculated to be the Centennial Classic jersey for the Leafs last season after it was spotted in the background of an interview with Matt Martin. Now, the jersey will be worn exactly 100 years to the day that the Arenas first took the ice.

The Arenas won their first Stanley Cup in 1918 led by hall of famers Reg Noble, Harry Cameron, Rusty Crawford, Jack Adams, and Hap Holmes.

Last season the Leafs paid tribute to the Toronto St. Pats team wearing a special jersey against the Chicago Blackhawks which opened up the discussion of the Arenas jersey making an appearance at some point this year.

The jerseys were revealed at an event at MLSE LaunchPad that featured Leafs greats Darryl Sittler and Darcy Tucker as well as Leafs President Brendan Shanahan and Toronto Mayor John Tory.

Leafs fans took to social media to show their excitement for the new jersey.

The Arenas roster during the 1917-18 season featured a 23-year-old Jack Adams, who was in his first NHL season. He would go on to play five more years for Toronto before making the jump to the front office.

The Leafs aren’t done revealing new jerseys just yet. The team has yet to release any images of their uniform for their Stadium Series matchup in March.
