The Toronto Maple Leafs will have another historic event to celebrate this upcoming season and may have new uniforms for it.

When the 2017-2018 season for the Toronto Maple Leafs was released, there were a few dates that stood out. One being the outdoor game in March against the Washington Capitals. It looks like the league liked what they saw in the playoffs, and wanted more of it on a larger scale.

The other date is linked with the history of the franchise. On December 19th 2017, the Leafs will have an early start against the Carolina Hurricanes at 2 PM. That game will mark the 100 year anniversary of the organization’s first game in the NHL. On that date back in 1917, the Toronto Arenas faced the Montreal Wanderers.

This will be the second year in a row that the Leafs will have some kind of game that commemorates the past. This past season, the team remembered the Toronto St. Patricks on, you guessed it, St. Patricks Day. The Leafs decided to wear the St. Patricks green-and-white jersey for their game against the Chicago Blackhawks.

It’s always nice to see the team change things up for a change. According to an article by Chris Creamer, this may happen again for that anniversary game. The article includes a photo of an order form for Leafs jerseys. Apparently “Maple Leafs Toronto Arenas Jersey Blue” may be coming to stores near you. There was a photo circulating from the Leafs locker room earlier this year with the Toronto St. Pats jersey and an Arenas jersey similar to the ones worn in the 1918-19 season.

There’s no surprise really, the Leafs have done very well in keeping the past in mind ever since Brendan Shanahan was hired as team president. For now, we’ll have to wait for confirmation by Leafs management. That being said, seeing an updated version of those Arena sweaters would be hard to pass up. Another detail to consider is that Adidas is the new supplier of jerseys this season. Would they be making new home and away jerseys for the Leafs along with an alternate jersey for the outdoor game and a special one for this anniversary game? Considering they did that last season it would be possible but something would have to be announced well before that.
