Three Toronto Blue Jays were ejected for arguing balls and strikes during the fifth inning of Thursday’s afternoon game against the Oakland Athletics.

It was a wild fifth inning between the Toronto Blue Jays and Oakland Athletics on Thursday afternoon, as Marcus Stroman, Russell Martin and manager John Gibbons were ejected from the game for arguing balls and strikes.

Home plate umpire Will Little was inconsistent during the first four innings of action and both the Blue Jays and Athletics voiced their displeasure with his strike zone. Little eventually had enough of the complaints, though, and he ejected Gibbons early in the top of the fifth inning.

Then, moments after Gibby was ejected, Stroman and Martin were visibly upset about Little’s ball four call and the two stood there in disbelief. It was tough to tell what Stroman said, but whatever it was Little felt it was enough to eject not only Stroman, but Martin too.

Stroman charged towards Little following his ejection and had to be held back by Martin and bench coach DeMarlo Hale. After ripping into Little, Stroman exited the field and the fireworks came to an end.

Here’s a couple more looks at the incident between Stroman, Martin and Little.

For what it’s worth, both the Blue Jays and Athletics have a history with Little, so seeing him go full blown “ump show” on both teams isn’t a surprise. What’s mind boggling, however, is how bad he was, particularly for A’s starter Sean Manaea. Here’s a look at the ball calls he made on both Manaea and Stroman.

Clearly Little’s ego got the better of him today, or he just wanted some more air time on television. Either way, I have never seen a manager, pitcher AND catcher all get thrown out in not only the same inning, but the same at bat. You gotta love baseball.
