Toronto Blue Jays: Josh Donaldson to the St. Louis Cardinals make sense for everyone
TORONTO GETS YOUNGER QUICKLY
If the Jays are looking for major league ready prospects than St. Louis might be their best trade partner.
Blue Jays President Mark Shapiro spoke on Bob McCowan Prime Time Sports about the teams need for upper-tier prospects.
"“I think what we’re working towards someday is kind of that ability to have a sustainable, contending team,” he said. “Right now we have that gap of Double-A, Triple-A talent from our major-league team."
Removing Donaldson from the equation would certainly challenge the team’s ability to immediately contend, but the return would help on the sustainability front.
The Cardinals have five prospects in MLB Pipeline’s top-100, tied for fifth among MLB teams. These prospects could help cement a quick rebuild, inserting young MLB talent into the 2018 club.
