Toronto Maple Leafs: Dart Guy is quitting smoking
By Chris Mckee
Even though it’s become his signature that made him famous worldwide, infamous Toronto Maple Leafs fan Dart Guy has announced he is quitting smoking.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you have no doubt seen the Dart Guy craze sweeping the nation during the NHL Playoffs. Jason Maslakow, a 37-year-old Waterloo, Ontario resident, became the face of the Toronto Maple Leafs after he was spotted at the Verizon Center in Washington, DC with a cigarette dangling in his mouth during the Leafs-Capitals round one playoff series.
Dart Guy became an instant fan favourite. As a result, he was given free tickets to the Leafs’ home playoff games and became a media darling.

He made appearances on the likes of Tim and Sid on Sportsnet and just about every sports talk radio show on TSN, Sportsnet 590 and Sirius/XM, as well as several major newscasts across the country.
Many of you were also familiar with the article condemning the Leafs and MLSE for encouraging smoking by embracing Dart Guy as the face of Leafs nation. Major news outlets took note and slammed the article from Tip of the Tower, including the Washington Post, Fox Sports and Yahoo Sports.
After much ado, Dart Guy announced on Monday that he is quitting smoking:
Dart Guy already has some major supporters in his corner on his mission to kick the habit, including Leafs’ president Brendan Shanahan.

Quitting smoking is never an easy task and can often take a few tries before being successful. Maslakow deserves credit for trying to kick smoking, even though it’s the one thing that has provided him with instant fame and a multitude of opportunities that wouldn’t have otherwise been available to him.
Best of luck to Dart Guy on the arduous task of quitting smoking.
