2) Communication key for next head coach

Botterill’s immediate focus will be on finding the right man to bring in as the next coach for the Sabres. In that respect, he is convinced there are a lot of high caliber candidates available.

Interestingly, the Edmonton, Alberta native will be in charge of finding the new head coach, although he will make a point of involving Terry and Kim Pegula in the process. Regardless of the Pegulas involvement though, he has no doubt what he wants from the new coach, with communication being of paramount importance.

Understandably, this is something you would always like to see from your head coach. However, this particular aspect comes under more scrutiny, when you consider the issues Dan Bylsma apparently had with Eichel, Sam Reinhart and some of the other younger players.

In addition, Botterill wants someone who can both develop and educate the players. Find the right man to follow this blueprint, and the memory of the Bylsma regime should quickly fade.
