1) Botterill has clear vision on direction of roster

Of course, this is what you would hope for/expect from any general manager. Regardless, it was important to hear Botterill break down his vision for what type of team he wants to put on the ice.

In that respect, the 1994 20th overall draft pick appreciates what he has in Ryan O’Reilly and Jack Eichel, and will make sure he builds the roster around them. As he pointed out, the NHL thrives on centermen.

Arguably of more interest, were Botterill’s comments regarding the style of play he wants from the Sabres. And while he stressed the new coach will have a big say, he wants to see a high tempo game.

Anticipating possible criticism surrounding this type of game, Botterill made a point of expanding on his vision. Specifically, he reassured fans he wants to play a high tempo, puck possession game, rather than just “dump and chase”.
