With the Buffalo Sabres officially announcing Jason Botterill as their new General Manger, we share our observations from his introductory press conference.

The worst-kept secret became official on Thursday, as Jason Botterill was announced as the new General Manger for the Buffalo Sabres. The news was confirmed by Brent Axe of Syracuse.com.

One thing that will be refreshing for local sports fans, is Botterill’s understanding of the Sabres’ importance to the Buffalo area. The former winger played the final three seasons of his career with the organization, suiting up for both the Sabres and the Rochester Amerks.

In taking over the reigns in Buffalo, the 40-year old becomes the second-youngest GM in the NHL. Make no mistake about it, the aim is for him to remain in his new position for the long term.

It helps that Botterill comes from a winning organization, having helped the Pittsburgh Penguins win two Stanley Cups during his ten years with them. Of particular relevance, he spent the last three seasons as associate GM in Pittsburgh.
