With the Trade Deadline approaching, the Leafs are in an interesting position and Colorado Avalanche’s forward Matt Duchene would be an ideal target.

There are many questions as to what the Leafs and other teams will do prior to, or on the day of the March 1st trade deadline. The main reason is because there are only two clear sellers — the Colorado Avalanche and Arizona Coyotes.

Both the Avalanche and Coyotes will have decisions to make, with a strong list of buyers available. Meanwhile, the Leafs are in a position where they need to improve, but are not in a rush to do so like other buyers.

However a couple of reports suggest Toronto could potentially make moves leading up to the trade deadline with their strong salary cap position:

This development got a lot of buzz, especially after Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston wrote about the Leafs having $15-million of cap space to work with. The team obviously needs help on the blue line, but if the Leafs have an opportunity to acquire a player like Matt Duchene they should not pass on it.
