Toronto Raptors: Mid-season Awards
By Demar Grant
Unlike the Grammys and Oscars this is a progressive award show. Awards given out here may not be the same awards handed out next quarter. This is a celebration of the Toronto Raptors so far and a crystallization of the culture.
Welcome to the Toronto Raptors‘ mid-season awards. Yes, the award show where everything is made up and they don’t matter. Yep, the awards don’t matter just like the Golden Globes and the Juno’s – the only difference is we don’t make people dress up for ours.
Another quarter of the schedule has passed and we’re officially smack dab in the middle of the season. The narrative continues to change in the ever-shifting sand that is the NBA.
The narrative shifted further away from Jared Sullinger talk and closer to Patrick Patterson or even Paul Millsap *gasp*. The Raptors are still the second-best team in the east (at least their W/L says so), but a lot has changed since the last awards were given out. With 40 games in the bank, it is an appropriate time to look back and hand out some awards to those who deserve it most
Again, this award show is a progressive award show. Awards given out here may not be the same awards handed out next quarter or at the end of the season (we like to keep it fresh around here). This is a celebration of the team so far and a crystallization of the culture right now.
