Toronto Maple Leafs Roundtable: Mid-Season Awards
Best Goal
Chris Okrainetz: There’s a few Matthews’ goals to pick from for this award, but I’ll go with his phenomenal one-handed tip-in against the Anaheim Ducks. He made such a difficult play look so easy and casual, which is something he’s done a lot this season.
Jake Middleton: It has to be Matthews game-winner from the Centennial Classic. Not because of how nice a goal it was (it really wasn’t), but because of what it represented. The Leafs, celebrating their 100 years of history, closed the books on 100 great seasons while effectively starting off the next century with a bang.
Matthews gave us fans a glimmer into what’s hopefully an even better 100 years moving forward while the Leafs past stars were in the crowd watching, it truly was an awesome moment.
Dave Morassutti : This award had to be the best one to decide because it was nice to re-watch all the different goals and I had to share my honourable mentions first just for the entertainment alone.
Nylander making Mike Smith look silly.
Mitch Marner showing great hands on the breakaway.
While both are nice goals, there is one that stands above the rest:
Matthews’ haunts the Ottawa Senators with an incredible solo effort.
