4) Honouring the Past and Repairing Relationships

October 15 was a historical night for the Leafs, as they retired the 11 numbers of previously “honoured” players, including Leafs legend Dave Keon. Considering the history between Keon and the Leafs, it was a special moment to see him stand at centre ice in the Air Canada Centre while him and other Leafs legends like Wendel Clark, Mats Sundin and Johnny Bower watched their numbers be retired.

Maple Leafs president Brendan Shanahan apparently played a major role in not only orchestrating this moment, but also in repairing the organizations relationship with Keon. The Leafs also gave Keon a statue on Legends row and named him the greatest player in franchise history.

Overall, it was nice touch on opening night and a great way to begin the Leafs Centennial season at home.
