5) Last Place Never Felt Better

To tank, or not to tank — that was the question Leafs fans debated near the end of last season. Well, considering how things turned out, you know, we got Matthews, I’d say they made the right choice.

It was a painful season, however. The team finished with 69 points and were losing on a nightly basis. In true Leaf fashion, though, the tank wasn’t secured until the very last game of the season on April 9 when they lost 5-1 to the New Jersey Devils and managed to fend off the Edmonton Oilers by one point and lockup 30th place.

The losing was painful, but considering the end result was Matthews, it was worth it.
