9) The Marlies Show Glimpse of the Future

The Toronto Marlies had a magical 2015-16 campaign. The team finished with a 54-16-6 record and just missed the AHL record for points percentage.

Although they ultimately fell short of their Calder Cup goal when they lost to Hershey in the third round of the playoffs, there were a lot of good things to takeaway from the season. For starters, we saw Nylander’s development take a massive step forward, as he dominated the league and registered 45 points in 38 games. We also saw players like Soshnikov, Hyman, Carrick and Brendan Leipsic take major steps forward too.

Overall, it was a huge year for the Leafs prospects and their successful season with the Marlies laid the foundation for players like Nylander to make the jump to the NHL.
