Toronto Maple Leafs: Top 10 Prospect Rankings Before World Juniors
10) Yegor Korshkov – LW Lokomotiv (KHL):
For me, Korshkov was probably the most controversial pick at the top of the second round last year. Many (including myself) were wondering “who the heck is this guy?” and why they picked some no name out of Russia instead of one of the many talented players still available at No. 31.
Although cooler heads prevailed, following some research and film study one saw an over-ager who was dominant at the World Junior Championships for the Russians, can skate like the wind, and has a tremendous skill set to go along with a massive 6-foot-4 frame.
Korshkov started his KHL season on fire for Yaroslavl, putting up 18 points and establishing himself as one of the league’s top young stars, but unfortunately a broken leg has him out for a solid chunk of the season. Although a big blow for Korshkov, it will be interesting to see how he is when he returns to Yaroslavl later this season. Although the talent is there, I don’t anticipate him coming over to North America until he believes he is fully ready to dominate in the NHL.
