Surprise of the Year

Norman Powell

Did Norman Powell steal Dwane Casey’s lunch out of the locker room fridge or something? Why does he rarely play? He shot 40 percent from three point land last year and was a key player in the Pacers series defensively, but he has only seen the hardwood sporadically. Powell averages 14 minutes a game, just like last year, but the numbers lie, as Powell has already acquired four DNPCD’s and has six games where he has played under 10 minutes.

Sure he’s an auxiliary piece to this squad but he’s still extremely valuable and Casey seems to know this because Mr. Serious has started four games over Ross this season (who has zero game starts).

After last year’s regular season and postseason performance we thought Powell was on the verge of serious rotational time and he has been, sort of. Did I mention that Norm is shooting 43.9 percent from three this year? How is he only getting spot minutes on this squad? Surely there’s a role Casey can find for him.
