The Toronto Raptors are a playoff team bound for at least the second round, it’s evident. But there’s still observable intrigue as we move along in the season.

The NBA season starts this week. Coaches are finalizing roster spots, players are rounding into form and plot threads have already entered the spindle. Sports are soap operas for men, if you haven’t realized that yet.

There are the betrayals (KD to the Warriors), legal battles (Ty Lawson, Darren Collison, or D-Rose, take your pick), Robberies (Boston vs Nets trade) and even returns from the dead (Warriors coming back from 3-1 and the Cavs coming back from 3-1). Sure, the play that is on the floor and who wins the games matters ultimately but the intrigue under the hood is what keeps fans going.

In our eyes Jack and Phyllis’ life after their divorce is just as important of the fate of Jabot. just how the Terrence Ross’ consistency matters as much to fans as the Toronto Raptors postseason success. We care more about the characters today than during the inevitable distant future.
