While Dan Bylsma prepares for his second season in charge of the Buffalo Sabres, we count down the top five head coaches in franchise history.

If you want evidence of how quickly time can pass by, look no further than the lifespan of the Buffalo Sabres. Be honest – does it really feel like it’s been nearly 50 years since they made their NHL debut?

Regardless, there have been a lot of ups and downs, since the team first took to the ice in 1970. Whether you remember the highs or lows more vividly may well depend on your perspective, but there’s no denying it has been an eventful ride.

And throughout it all, the Sabres has been fortunate enough to have some of the best head coaches in the NHL ply their trade in Western New York. (In that respect, Dan Bylsma looks like a good bet to leave a lasting impression on the franchise.)
