4) Will Jack Eichel take the next step in his development?

Jack Eichel was as advertised last season. In fact, he was so good, he led the team in goals, the first Sabres rookie to do so since Ray Sheppard, in 1987-88.

Everything about Eichel points towards a long-term, successful career in the NHL. He is a superior offensive talent, is excellent with the puck and his potential is off the charts.

However, as per the nature of professional sports, the 19-year old won’t be able to rest on his laurels, with more expected of him this season. Moving forward, the biggest questions surround his ability to handle the spotlight and perform consistently, on a team regularly looking to him for inspiration.

In truth, while it will be interesting to see how Eichel develops, there appears little to be concerned about. He has already shown he belongs in the NHL and the Sabres should reap the benefits, both this season and beyond.
