Buffalo Bills: Pros and Cons of LeSean McCoy’s Backups
By Paul Taylor
Jonathan Williams
Vital stats: Drafted in the fifth round in 2016 / 22-years old / 5 ft 11 / 220 lbs
Career highlights: Four-star recruit in 2011, 2014 Second-team All-SEC selection, Rushed for 1,000 yards as a Junior with Arkansas, despite splitting rushing load
Pros: Athletic, with outstanding feet and balance, which combine well with his power and strength. Excellent instincts, resulting in a lot of missed tackles. Capable of being a three-down back, if required. Appears to have the desire to succeed/learn, evidenced by spending time with Bills legend Thurman Thomas.
Cons: Only just joined the Bills and already getting into trouble with the law. Not the best first impression to make in the NFL. Injury history makes you wonder about his durability, especially at this level. Has issues protecting the ball.
Overall: Yes, Williams has to regain trust after his DUI incident. However, he still has an outside chance at landing the main backup job. Whatever happens, he figures to be ahead of Herron and Wilder, in the battle to earn a roster spot.
Next: So far so good for Reggie Ragland
