Buffalo Bills: Pros and Cons of LeSean McCoy’s Backups
By Paul Taylor
Boom Herron
Vital stats: Drafted in the sixth round in 2012 / 27-years old / 5 ft 10 / 215 lbs
Career highlights: 2009 Big Ten Champion, three-time Bowl Champion with the Buckeyes
Pros: Familiarity with the Bills. Took advantage of his one opportunity to impress in 2014 with the Colts, starting three games and finishing regular season with 351 rushing yards. Then helped them advance to the AFC Championship game. Also useful as a receiver out of the backfield.
Cons: Lack of opportunities to impress point to not showing enough consistency to the teams he’s played for. Now 27, time is running out to prove he can be a success at the NFL level. Struggles to hold onto the ball.
Overall: When the Bills re-signed Herron back in June, a large part of the reason was simply to have some healthy bodies on the practice field. At the time, four running backs were being held out with injuries. Ultimately, he’s unlikely to claim a roster spot for the upcoming season.
Next: Not much chance for this guy either
