Buffalo Bills: Pros and Cons of LeSean McCoy’s Backups
By Paul Taylor
Karlos Williams
Vital stats: Drafted in the fifth round in 2015 / 23-years old / 6 ft 1 / 230 lbs
Career highlights: Five-star recruit in 2011, 65-yard touchdown run on first carry of college career, 2014 BCS National Champion, 26-yard touchdown run on first carry of NFL career
Pros: Brought immediate benefit to the Bills, offering a nice change of pace to McCoy. Third on the team in rushing and led them in scoring on the ground. Tied for team-lead for overall touchdowns. Embraced the game at the NFL level and has the potential to enjoy a long, productive career.
Cons: Does he have the discipline to survive in the NFL? Turning up for minicamp 20-25 pounds overweight was bad enough. However, his suspension for substance abuse made matters even worse. Has to now prove himself to the Bills coaching staff all over again.
Overall: Even though Williams is in the doghouse, suggestions his future in Buffalo is precarious seem to be jumping the gun. He’s a young kid who admitted he made a couple of mistakes, but didn’t we all? It will be a long four weeks for him to start the regular season, but there’s every reason to believe he will return to the form of his rookie year.
Next: Going to be tough for this guy to make the roster
