Buffalo Bills: 5 Players With Something to Prove
By Paul Taylor
5) Dan Carpenter
Before last season, Dan Carpenter was a virtual lock when it came to kicking extra points, with just two misses in seven years. Unfortunately, the decision to move extra points back had a big impact on him, resulting in missing six of his 40 attempts during 2015.
It seems worth noting that Carpenter also had the second-best field goal success rate of his professional career, at 89.5 percent. In fact, he has been at his most accurate as a field goal kicker, during his two seasons in Buffalo.
Regardless, Ryan was not impressed with the 30-year old. And while it seemed unfair to call out your kicker in the media – especially with some of the more deserving players who avoided being publicly shamed – the pressure will be on as we enter training camp.
Carpenter’s main competition is expected to come from Marshall Morgan, who is an undrafted rookie. The 2009 Pro Bowler is still the favorite to win the starting job, but you know Ryan will be keeping a close eye on how he performs during the preseason.
