A report has confirmed the reason Sebastian Giovinco pretended to rev up an imaginary motorcycle, after scoring a penalty for Toronto FC.

More from Toronto FC

Toronto FC got their season off to a fantastic start, thanks to a hard-fought win against the New York Red Bulls. Beating last year’s Supporters Shield winners will certainly boost the confidence in Greg Vaney’s men.

Furthermore, winning on the road against a team which only lost three times at home last season, can only further increase the belief within the roster. It may only be one game, but the early signs are good for TFC, especially with their revamped defence keeping a clean sheet.

It also helps that the 2015 MLS MVP carried on where he left off last season. Sebastian Giovinco broke the deadlock from the penalty spot and then set up Toronto FC’s game-clinching second goal.

However, for once that wasn’t the main reason everyone was talking about the Italian superstar. Whether you’ve already seen it or not, here’s the celebration that followed his goal:

Understandably, people were a bit confused by what the motorcycle celebration meant. Fortunately, we now have the answer, courtesy of Sam Stejskal of mlssoccer.com.

As Stejskal reported, Giovinco received a visit from Italian TV personalities Pio e Amedeo during the winter. They host a show, in which they travel to meet Italian VIPs and athletes who live abroad and make them pay for everything, by pretending to have no money.

In any event, the duo advised the 29-year old to stop mimicking Alessandro Del Piero, and pick a unique celebration to separate himself from other players. In the video, they suggested Giovinco pretend to kick-start a Vespa, which is exactly what he did last Sunday.

Some people believe professional athletes should act like they’ve been there before when they score, whereas others think they have every right to enjoy themselves as they see fit. Either way, Toronto FC fans know the more times they see the motorcycle celebration, the more likely the team is to enjoy a successful season.
