4) International call-ups

There is no denying Toronto FC have done an excellent job of strengthening the roster during the offseason. Unfortunately, there are still some things beyond their control.

Arguably the biggest obstacle will come during the summer, with both the Euros and Copa America Centenario tournament taking place. MLS will have a two-week hiatus in June, to help accommodate these events, but even that may not be enough.

The likes of Giovinco, Michael Bradley and Jozy Altidore are all likely to be called up for international duty. If their teams qualify for the knock-out rounds, this increases the potential for them to miss games for TFC.

On top of this, more international games always increases the possibility of injuries. While this entire situation isn’t unique to Toronto in MLS, no one else has to contend with losing the reigning league MVP.
