2) The revamped defence

TFC had no problems scoring goals last season, as evidenced by finishing joint-second in the league, with 58. However, they also conceded the same number, making them the worst defence in MLS.

It goes without saying, but Toronto need to improve at the back, if they are to build on their inaugural playoff appearance. In that respect, they proved they are serious about continuing to contend.

To begin with they signed Drew Moor, one of the most prized free agents in MLS, along with Steven Beitashor. This was quickly followed by adding three-time All-Star Will Johnson, a defensive-minded midfielder.

Finally, Toronto FC brought in Clint Irwin, to shore up the goalkeeper position. Understandably it may take a little time for the defence to gel, but in reality, they should easily improve on last season’s showing.
