There have been various discussions recently of whether or not the Toronto Maple Leafs should trade James Reimer. Fellow writer Braydon Holmyard made some valid points as to why the Leafs should move the starting goalie, especially with his value rising.

However, if this season has taught the Leafs anything, it is that the solution is not to trade Reimer. Rather, it is to keep him and make him a part of the plan moving forward.

Obviously, because Reimer is an unrestricted free agent the time is ticking for the Leafs to sign him to an extension. If he does not get a contract when free agency comes along, it would be hard for him not to be curious at what other teams could offer him.

Even with all that the Leafs would be better off having Reimer with the team during the long haul, instead of moving him at the deadline especially if the team does not get a fair offer for him. Let’s look at some of the factors that will come into the team’s final decision.
