2) Super Bowl XXXII

Until recently, it was this writer’s opinion that this was the best game in the history of the Super Bowl. There were so many aspects that added up to making this the perfect storm of drama you want in a championship match-up.

For a start, there was the NFC’s 13-year winning streak, with many of the encounters giving us disappointing one-sided affairs. This included an 0-9 record by the quarterback class of 1983, with John Elway suffering three defeats by an average score of 45-13.

The Green Bay Packers entered as favorites, with three-time NFL MVP Brett Favre manning the helm for the defending champions. The Denver Broncos were not expected to have any chance, despite bringing the most balanced offence of the Elway era to San Diego.

What followed was an enthralling encounter, which remained in doubt until the final minute. Elway had the play of the game, with his helicopter spin, but Terrell Davis deservedly took home the MVP award, with a dominating performance on the ground.
