Despite deep runs in the playoffs during the 90’s with Reggie Miller and the Indiana Pacers, it was Antonio Davis’ time in Toronto that was his most productive.
The big man had such a great 2000-01 campaign, that he was voted in by the fans at the 2001 All-Star game, averaging a double-double in rebounds and points at the time.
As a matter of fact, during Davis’ time with the Raptors, his numbers had him among the league leaders in double-doubles and rebounds.
You could make the argument that the Raptors are still searching for a frontcourt player who was both as productive and vocal as a leader as Davis was.
Coming into Toronto, he was already a six-year NBA veteran with heavy playoff experience, and alongside Charles Oakley, created the toughest and nastiest frontcourt Toronto has ever produced.
To top it off, the man decided to return to Toronto in 2006 to end his career, after being dealt by the team two seasons earlier.
Davis may be an afterthought nowadays in Raptors lore, but he was essential to bringing the team their first taste of success in those early years, and has yet to be surpassed by anyone in the organizations history at centre.
