Following a nightmare 2005 season that saw the team post a 27-55 record and earn the first pick in the 2006 draft, the Raptors over went a complete roster overhaul in 2006 that eventually led to an improbable Atlantic Division title.
General manager Bryan Colangelo revamped the roster around Chris Bosh by drafting Andrea Bargnani with the first pick, trading for point guard T.J. Ford, and signing Anthony Parker and Jorge Garbajosa to add depth.
With low expectations, Raptors head coach Sam Mitchell found a way to get the most from his players and would lead the Raptors to a 47 win season. Highlighted by an off-season of changes, Colangelo’s aggressive approach helped the Raptors win their first ever Atlantic Division championship. Sadly, this moment was essentially the peak of the Colangelo era in Toronto.
