South Alabama quarterback Brandon Bridge caught up with friends and family from Mississauga, after the Jaguars defeated Kent State 23-13.

Brandon Bridge, Quarterback, South Alabama (Mississauga, ON)

Making his first career start for South Alabama this past weekend, Mississauga’s Brandon Bridge led a steady Jaguars attack to a hard-fought 23-13 victory. Bridge put together an efficient day, as he was 15-for-25 passing for 161 yards and a touchdown, as well as gaining 55 rushing yards on 13 carries, highlighted by a hurdling 15 yard run.

Even though the Jaguars offence did suffer a few injuries during the game, Bridge kept the offensive unit composed and allowed the Jaguars offensive line to impose their will, as South Alabama rushed for 347 total yards Saturday.

After a great first start, Brandon Bridge and company have the South Alabama faithful very excited for their upcoming home game against SEC opponent Mississippi State.

Just how excited?

Well, so excited that the school will be hosting their first football game sell-out in school history this Saturday!

With South Alabama football on the rise, Brandon Bridge’s stock can only go up with it, as he looks to lead the Jaguars to a historical season in 2014.

Tevaun Smith, Wide Receiver, Iowa (Toronto, ON)

A pair of late fourth quarter drives helped the Hawkeyes comeback from a 13-3 deficit, en route to a 17-13 come-from-behind victory over Ball State.

Junior Tevaun Smith put together another strong game, as he caught 6 receptions, for 59 yards. Smith has quickly become one of quarterback Jake Rudock’s favourite targets.

Smith looks to continue his breakout season when the Hawkeyes welcome in-state rival Iowa State to Kinnick Stadium on Saturday to battle for the Cy-Hawk trophy.

Arjen Colquhoun, Cornerback, Michigan State (Windsor, ON)

Michigan State got off to a great start in Eugene, as the Spartans led Oregon 24-18 at halftime. But like many other opponents who have played in Autzen Stadium, the Spartans would fall victim to the Ducks high-octane attack in the second half, as Oregon would out score Michigan State 28-3 in the second half, en route to a 46-27 final score.

Windsor’s Arjen Colquhoun would participate in the game, but did not record any statistics.

Juwan Brescacin, Wide Receiver, Northern Illinois (Toronto, ON)

Northern Illinois erupted for a 23-point second half explosion, as the Huskies came back to upset in-state foe Northwestern 23-15, on the road in Evanston. This marks Northern Illinois’ third consecutive victory over Big Ten opponents.

Toronto’s Juwan Brescacin recorded 2 receptions in the game, for 13 yards. The Huskies changed quarterback’s midway through the game, after the offence was stagnant throughout much of the first half. Although Brescacin’s statistics don’t jump out at you on the box score, he played well throughout the game, and helped the Huskies rushing attack gain 24o yards on the ground.

Miami (Ohio) fell 17-10 to Eastern Kentucky on Saturday. The Redhawks did control the ball for most of the game, as they possessed the ball for 38:38, compared to the Colonels 21:22. But six Miami (Ohio) turnovers would prove to be the difference in this one.

Mississauga’s Mitch Winters started his second consecutive game at defensive tackle. Winters recorded 1 assisted tackle, but continues to see a lot of snaps along the Redhawks defensive line.

Here is the official Miami (Ohio) game recap.

Trent Corney, Defensive End, Viriginia (Brockville, ON)

Akeel Lynch, Running Back, Penn State (Toronto, ON)

After a slow start offensively, Penn State would get it together in the second half and defeat the Akron Zips 21-3. Although Penn State leaned on their defence for most of the game, the offence was able to put together 14 second half points.

Running back Akeel Lynch really made his presence felt in this game. Lynch finished the game as the Nittany Lions leading rusher, rushing for 45 yards, on 7 carries. Lynch was used as both a back in the teams 11 and 12 personnel packages, as well as the featured back in the Nittany Lions wildcat attack. After a strong performance on Saturday, Lynch could see his workload increase going forward.

Matthew Boateng, Defensive Back, Kansas (Pickering, ON)

Kansas topped Southeast Missouri State 34-28 in their season opener this past weekend. Although the Jayhawks controlled most of the game, Southeast Missouri State would erase a 34-7 deficit with 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, almost completing the improbable comeback.

Pickering’s Matthew Boateng had a stellar debut, as he recorded 2 tackles (1 solo, 1 assisted) and his first career interception. After a great first game, Boateng looks like he will be a part of the Jayhawks secondary rotation going forward.

Here is the official Kansas game recap.
