Buffalo Bills Might Wait Until Week 1 to Name Starting QB
If you were hoping that Rex Ryan and the Buffalo Bills‘ coaching staff would name a starting quarterback early on at training camp, prepare to be disappointed.
On Friday, Ryan told reporters that he might not reveal who the starting quarterback is until just before the team’s home opener on September 13 against the Indianapolis Colts.
Rex Ryan: “Indianapolis may not know who our quarterback is until we play them [Week 1]. We may know, but they may not.”

This news isn’t much of a surprise, since Matt Cassel, Tyrod Taylor, and EJ Manuel have all taken first-team snaps throughout training camp, though Cassel has taken the most. However, it’s pretty clear that the Bills’ coaching staff will take their time with this process and thoroughly evaluate all three quarterbacks.

But that’s a stretch, since the Colts will likely be more concerned with Greg Roman’s complex blocking scheme, as opposed to Cassel, Taylor or Manuel shredding them through the air.
Saturday night’s scrimmage, as well as next Friday’s preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers, should give us a bit more insight as to which of the three pivots is the leading candidate to be under centre for the Bills this season.
Either way, I hope you like guessing games, because we could be trying to figure out who the Bills’ starting quarterback will be all month-long.
