Toronto Raptor’s forward DeMar DeRozan is featured among the likes of LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Paul George in Nike’s new “Come Out of Nowhere” Campaign.

At some point in every NBA players career, there have been doubts. For some it was at the beginning, they were too small, too skinny, or lacked athleticism. For others it comes later, so why would DeMar DeRozan stay with the Toronto Raptors when he can go to the Los Angeles Lakers and be an unbridled star in his hometown?

The answers to the doubts are often unique and unexpected, but DeRozan and Nike are here to prove loyalty is not for sale.

More from Toronto Raptors

The Raptors franchise and fan base were strung along all season, even though a player says they want to be part of the team forever things can change. Look at LaMarcus Aldridge who said he wanted to be the greatest Blazer ever only months before he left for San Antonio.

Like the sword of Damocles, DeRozan’s contract weighed over his head while the media continued to push a narrative that he wanted to leave for Los Angeles. He had to make a decision, it was hell for the Raptors, the fan base and undoubtedly hellish for DeRozan to endure.

He ultimately re-signed with the Raptors for five-years, $139 million, which is actually less than the max amount of money he could get. He has the word ‘loyalty’ tattooed on his arm because he’s the type of person to “walk with you to the store in the rain” because he said he would.

He could have left for the glitz and glamour of Los Angeles, and it was likely hard not to entertain the idea. But leaving for the Lakers means leaving everything behind in Toronto, not just the city, but his best friend and the kids that look up to him for just for vanity.
