With the new season nearly here, and Aaron Williams looking to bounce back from his neck injury, we count down the top five safeties in Buffalo Bills history.

The Buffalo Bills appreciate the importance of Aaron Williams to their chances of ending the NFL’s longest current postseason drought. Certainly, the defense improves right away, when one of their leaders is out there on the field.

In some respects, Williams’ value to the team is impressive, given that he only started playing at strong safety in 2013. As such, his recovery from last season’s scary neck injury will be on the key factors to watch out for in the coming weeks, as he tests his body in preseason action.

Assuming everything is okay – and his health is the main thing here – the 2011 second round draft pick will take is place alongside free safety Corey Graham in the Bills’ secondary. Graham, who was voted to the Pro Bowl in 2011, is one of the more durable players in the league, having not missed a single game in eight seasons.

With so much emphasis on the safety position right now in Buffalo – particularly Williams – we decided to delve into franchise history. Here is our countdown of the top five safeties to have ever pulled on a Bills jersey.
