Buffalo Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins left in the first quarter of the teams preseason finale against the Detroit Lions after re-injuring his ribs last night.
Watkins would leave the game and not return, as the Bills would fall to the Lions 23-0.
Sammy Watkins officially has a rib injury. Return is questionable.
The Bills decision to play Watkins tonight was an interesting one, that might come back to bite them. Even though Watkins was medically cleared to play tonight, most teams proceed with extra caution during their final preseason season game; especially with players just coming off an injury like Watkins was.
While that all sounds great in theory, a healthy inexperienced Watkins is far more valuable than a banged up, inexperienced one. While we don’t know the severity of Watkins injury yet, the sentiment towards the situation is that of befuddlement about why Watkins played in a meaningless game.
Watkins, the fourth overall pick out of Clemson, has seldom played this preseason, as he has been dealing with this rib injury for the past couple weeks.
With the Bills investing a first round pick to land Watkins, you really hope for both the Bills and their loyal Bills Mafia fans, that Watkins rib injury is nothing too serious.
