As you likely already know, the Toronto Maple Leafs have been getting involved in the latest craze currently sweeping the NHL – the Ice Bucket Challenge. Players around the league are having buckets full of icy water dumped on their heads to help raise awareness and funds for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
As we wrote on Sunday, the challenge has already been accepted by Leafs players Tyler Bozak and James van Riemsdyk. At the time, my only issue was that JVR didn’t nominate anyone else to take on the “dreaded” task.
Fortunately, the Leafs winger got his act together and picked Dion Phaneuf, an appropriate choice, given that a lot of Leafs fans consider him a bit wet behind the ears.
We’re happy to report the Leafs captain answered the challenge, and as a bonus, his wife Elisha Cuthbert also got involved.
Would it be wrong to admit I found it a shame that Mrs. Phaneuf didn’t wear a T-shirt? Along those lines, I imagine that a lot of women out there will be looking forward to seeing Joffrey Lupul take up the challenge.
(In case you missed it, former Leafs Mikhail Grabovski and Nikolai Kulemin have also sent a bizarre Ice Bucket Challenge challenge to Randy Carlyle and Dave Nonis. You decide whether it’s fun or petty.)
