I realize we’re only four games in and the Toronto Argonauts have the benefit of playing in the weaker East Division. However, for my money, this weekend’s clash with the Saskatchewan Roughriders is as important as you can get for this early in the season.
Slight hyperbole? Maybe. Panicking a little bit too much? Perhaps. But I’m already fearful for the Argonauts’ future prospects this season.
Currently sitting at 1-3, the Double Blue have to contend with the continued absence of their top three receivers, Andre Durie, Chad Owens and Jason Barnes. (And don’t get me started on the defence, which has given up the second-most points in the CFL, one less than the Montreal Alouettes.)
Actually, talking of the Argonauts’ injury-depleted receiving core, this makes it even more impressive that Ricky Ray is currently leading the league in passing yards (1,280). Let’s hear what the star quarterback has to say about the upcoming game against the Grey Cup champions:
Okay, fine. I’m feeling slightly more confident after listening to the dulcet tones of Ray. Let’s hope he improves his road record against the Roughriders to 3-0 in an Argonauts uniform, come Saturday night at Mosaic Stadium.
