Toronto Raptors Release Statement Supporting Commissioner Adam Silver's Decision

The owner of the Toronto Raptors, Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, released a statement following NBA Commissioner Adam Silver’s decision to ban Los Angeles Clippers’ owner Donald Sterling from the NBA for life, for his racist remarks that were made public by TMZ.

In addition to the ban, Sterling was fined $2.5 Million dollars–the maximum fine under the NBA. Finally, Adam Silver will urge the league’s board of governors to force a sale of the Clippers’ franchise, and will need the support of at least 75% of the other NBA owners do to so.

The statement released by MLSE fully supports Commissioner Silver’s decision and discipline handed down:

“As a proud member of the National Basketball Association, we stand strongly in our belief that the comments attributed to Mr. Sterling have no place in our society or sport. Our organization will always work to contribute to a culture of diversity and acceptance in this league and fully support the actions taken today. We thank Commissioner Adam Silver, and all of the NBA players, for their leadership on this important issue.”
