Following the Blue Jays home opener loss to the New York Yankees 7-3, which saw the Jays use 5 of their 7 relievers from the bullpen, the Jays have designated Jeremy Jeffress for assignment. Jeffress has made 3 appearances out of the bullpen in this short Blue Jays 5 game season. He did not perform well to say the least, giving up a combined 4 ER on 8 hits and 3 walks in 3 1/3 innings pitched (10.80 ERA, 3.30 WHIP). Jeffress is out of options–a reason for him making the 25-man roster to begin the season, and therefore has been placed on waivers and can be claimed by any major league team that chooses to do so. If not claimed he will report to the AAA Buffalo Bisons. Jeffress made 10 appearances out of the bullpen last season for the Blue Jays, with a 0.87 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, and 10.5 K/9.
The reciprocating move was a call up from AAA Buffalo for starter Chad Jenkins, who will occupy the vacant spot left in the Blue Jays bullpen. Jenkins made 10 appearances (including 3 starts) for the Blue Jays in 2013–and was also one of their September callups–with a 2.70 ERA, 1.11 WHIP in 33.1 innings pitched.
