Ervin Santana looking to sign a 1-year contract as soon as possible

Ervin Santana remains the only big name free agent pitcher to not have signed a contract this offseason. Now it may seem that the former all-star pitcher is beginning to grow impatient. As FoxSports’ Ken Rosenthal reports, Santana is now looking to sign a 1-year contract with a strong offensive team, which Rosenthal lists the Baltimore Orioles and the Toronto Blue Jays as teams that fit that description.

The 30 year old Santana comes off a successful 2013 season as a member of the Kansas City Royals, bouncing back from a poor 2012 to have a season with a 9-10 record, 3.24 ERA, 1.142 WHIP, 3.16 SO/BB (All career-highs over the past 5 seasons). Reports early in the offseason were that Santana was looking to ink a $100 million dollar contract over 5 years. Needless to say that price has since dropped as Santana is unable to find a major league team that is willing to sign him at the moment.

The Blue Jays have been linked to Santana in the past, as possible destinations for the right-hander. However Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos declined to sign Ervin Santana to a contract, citing that the asking price was too high.
