Toronto Raptors Purple "Dino" Jerseys return for select 2014-2015 home games

During the Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) Players Gala on Thursday night–with Toronto Raptors and Toronto Maple Leafs players in attendance–it was announced that the Toronto Raptors retro and original, Purple “Dino” Jerseys would be making a return next season (2014-2015) for select home games.

This announcement comes without surprise to those who were aware that the Raptors had released their new 20th anniversary logo just a few days earlier.

These same jerseys (originally road jerseys) were worn during the inaugural 1995 season of the Toronto Raptors franchise, the last season they were worn was during the 1998-1998 season. The jerseys were changed but purple logo remained until 2007-2008, before the team switched to an all-red scheme replacing the purple.

In the statement released by the Raptors GM Masai Ujiri talked about bringing back the Raptors’ history:

“We are excited to bring back a piece of team history as part of our 20th Anniversary celebration,” said Masai Ujiri, President and General Manager of the Raptors. “Our fans have shown affection for the original purple uniform and I think our players will enjoy the chance to wear them next season.”

The jerseys are described in full detail by the Raptors:

The front of the uniform top features the unique Raptors font in silver with the team’s dinosaur motif in action with basketball in hand. The uniform showcases the original team colours of Raptor Red, purple, black and Naismith Silver, the latter in honour of Dr. James A. Naismith of Almonte, Ontario, the multi-faceted Canadian who invented basketball in 1891. The uniform also features the unique jagged pinstripe design.

Included with the announcement was a promo video by the Raptors:

As of now it is not known how many games or which games the jerseys will be worn next season.
