Buffalo Bills: Manuel Out; Thad Lewis To Start At Quarterback

The Buffalo Bills have announced that Rookie Quarterback EJ Manuel will miss Week 16 to rest his injured knee. Thad Lewis will take over as starter for the Bills in Week 16.

Lewis, who was effective in limited action earlier in the season while Manuel was out following th intiial injury to his knee looks to solidify his spot as at least a back up quarterback in the NFL.

Manuel missing more time is an unfortunate cherry on top of an already unfortunate season. With little left for the Bills to play for this season, the continued progression of Manuel as an NFL quarterback is paramount to the near future of the Bills franchise, and with him on the sidelines yet again, it will undoubtedly start the questions about his ability to stay healthy in the NFL.

While Manuel is the future of the franchise (we hope), Lewis may in fact be the team’s best shot at winning at the present moment, which may not be ideal with the Bills playing for draft position. I for one think that this team could use a healthy dose of Tuel time in these last two weeks of the season.
