After having to agonizingly sit by while our American counterparts basked in the glory that is HBO’s 24/7 Red Wings/Maple Leafs: Road to the NHL Winter, Canadian hockey fans finally get their chance to take it in as the 4-part documentary is set to air at 7:30 p.m. ET on Sunday December 15.
After the series premiered in the US on Saturday night, reviews have been mixed. Regardless of what critics have said, the opportunity to “look behind the curtain” is one that Leafs fans can’t pass up. Having to deal with the suffocating Toronto media leads to Maple Leafs players to suppress anything that resembles a personality in interviews, the all access nature of 24/7 will give fans the chance to see what Phil Kessel, Dion Phaneuf, and company are like when not being peppered with stupid questions.
The Leafs poor play that coincided with the beginning of filming all but insures that the Leafs will be a morose group for part 1 of the series, however Leafs fans will be able to sit back and see how the team reacts to adversity, and note how the team managed to rally leading up to Saturday night’s performance, which was by far their best of the year which will most certainly be featured on next Sunday’s episode.
